Donald Ross laid out Brookside in 1920 and it opened for play in 1922. A century later the routing remains substantially as he drew it, and the course continues to earn national recognition.
The Club
The clubhouse has anchored the property since the beginning and remains the center of daily club life.
The Membership
Brookside is member-governed. Members are not customers here. They are owners of an institution held in trust for the next generation.
Golf Digest ranks Brookside the 9th best course in Ohio.
Golfweek ranks it 7th in Ohio and 84th among the Top 100 Classic Courses in America.
Golf Magazine places it among the Top 100 Courses in the United States.
The course closes in the summer of 2027 and reopens in the spring of 2028.
In that window, architect Tyler Rae will lead the most significant course project in Brookside’s history, returning the Ross design to its original intent. It is one of the more significant Ross restorations underway anywhere in the country.

Every candidacy follows the same path: a sponsoring member and three letters of reference, a formal application, a ten-day posting period, an interview with the Membership Committee, and a recommendation to the Board of Governors for final approval.
